Mali is in Western Africa and is landlocked. It borders Algeria, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal. Its capital is Bamako. About 25 million people live there (2025), the 58th largest population of the 197 countries, and it covers 1.24 million km², the 23rd largest by area.
